Description: This very cute baby hat is simple to make. The edge is made of purl rows and seed st rows, while the body consists of a large knit-purl block pattern. The k2tog and p2tog decreases are worked in with the block design. It is finished off with an I-cord knot. The hat takes less than one ball to make, and knits up pretty quickly.
Level: Easy (working in the round, k2tog & p2tog decreases, I-cord)
Size: 15½" circumference
Materials:
- 1 ball Crystal Palace Cotton Twirl (shown in #2244 "Fandango")
- Crystal Palace Bamboo 6" or 8" double-pointed needles in US size 8, or size needed for gauge
- Tapesty needle
Gauge: 4½ sts=1" over St st
Abbreviations: CO = cast on, dpn = double-pointed needles, k = knit, k2tog = knit 2 stitches together; p = purl, p2tog = purl 2 stitches together; rnd = round; St st = stockinette stitch; st(s) = stitch(es);
INSTRUCTIONS
CO 70 sts on dpn's. Join and begin working in the rnd.
Rnd 1: P.
Rnd 2: (k1, p1) around.
Rnd 3: (p1, k1) around.
Rnd 4: As Rnd 2.
Rnd 5: As Rnd 3.
Rnd 6: P.
Rnds 7-16: (k7, p7) around.
Rnds 17-26: (p7, k7) around.
Crown Decrease:
Rnd 27: (k5, k2tog, p5, p2tog) around. [60 sts.]
Rnd 28: (k6, p6) around.
Rnd 29: (k4, k2tog, p4, p2tog) around. [50 sts.]
Rnd 30: (k5, p5) around.
Rnd 31: (k3, k2tog, p3, p2tog) around. [40 sts.]
Rnd 32: (k4, p4) around.
Rnd 33: (k2, k2tog, p2, p2tog) around. [30 sts.]
Rnd 34: (k3, p3) around.
Rnd 35: (k1, k2tog, p1, p2tog) around. [20 sts.]
Rnd 36: ( k2tog, p2tog) around. [10 sts.]
Rnd 37: K2tog around. [5 sts]
Work 2½" I-cord over remaining 5 sts. Thread up sts. Weave in ends. Tie I-cord in knot.
