Cotton Twirl

Chevron Scarf

Designed by Susan Druding and knit by Angie Kachelmeier.

Description:  This retro-style scarf uses one print with three coordinating solids of Cotton Twirl in chevron stitch.  The chevron is formed by basic increases and decreases.

Level:  Easy

Size:  9" x 54"

Materials: 

  • 1 ball each of 3 solids and 2 balls of a print of Crystal Palace Cotton Twirl, shown in:

  • A=2911
  • B=2927
  • C=2929
  • Z=2245 (printed color)
  •  
  • Crystal Palace Bamboo 9" single-pointed needles in US size 10.5 (or size needed for gauge
  • Tapestry needle

 Gauge:  5 sts=1 inch in patt (~3.5 sts/inch in St st)

 

Abbreviations:  inc- increase k- knit; k2tog- knit 2 together; p- purl; psso- pass the slipped stitch over; sl- slip; St(s)- Stitch(es); St st- stockinette stitch (k the right side Rnds and p the wrong side Rnds)

 

Chevron Pattern Stitch:

(Pattern is a 13 st repeat, 3 garter sts at each side of scarf)

 

Row 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9:  K3, *inc 1 by knitting in back and front of next K st, K4, sl 1, k2tog, psso, K4, inc in back and front of next st*, repeat between *'s twice more, end with K3.

Row 2, 4, 6, 8:  K3, P39, K3

Row 10:  K.

 

Repeat these 10 rows for Chevron pattern.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Cast on 45 sts. K 3 rows.

 

Begin Chevron Pattern using the following sequence:

A for 10 rows.

B for 10 rows.

Z for 10 rows.

C for 10 rows.

A for 10 rows.

Z for 10 rows.

B for 10 rows.

C for 10 rows.

Z for 10 rows.

 

Repeat this sequence until piece measures approx. 53".

 

At end of scarf, K 3 rows in final color and bind off loosely.

 

Note: Designer changed colors at edge by knitting first 2 sts with old and new color together.
