Materials:
Gauge: 4.5 sts=1" in St st with Cotton Twirl
Abbreviations: CC- contrast color; k- knit; K2tog- knit 2 sts together (decrease of 1 st); kfb- knit in front and back loop to increase by 1 stitch; MC- main color; p- purl; psso- pass slip st over; rnd- round; st(s)- stitch(es); sl- slip st
INSTRUCTIONS
With MC, cast on 88 sts. Join, being careful not to twist.
Work in K1, P1 rib for 8 rnds (~ 1 in)
Join CC (carry color not in use up each round)
Work 8 rnds of Simple Lace Pattern with CC.
Simple Lace:
Rnd 1: *(K2tog, YO, K1, P1)
Rnd 2: *(K1, P1tbl, K1, P1)
Rnd 3: *(K1, P1, K2tog, YO)
Rnd 4: *(K1, P1, K1, P1tbl)
Change to MC; K1 rnd; work 4 patt rnds.
Change to CC: work 4 patt rnds, K1 rnd.
Change to MC: work patt rnds 1, 2, 3.
Change to CC: work patt rnds 4, 1, 2.
Change to MC: work patt rnd 3.
Change to CC: work patt rnd 4. Cut CC.
With MC, work patt rnds 1-4.
Begin crown shaping (hat should be ~6 in from cast on edge).
Crown shaping:
Change to dpn as needed.
Dec rnd 1: *(K2tog, K1, P1).
Work 2 rnds *(K2, P1).
Dec rnd 2: *(K2tog, P1).
Work 2 rnds *(K1, P1).
Final decreases: work *K2tog around; repeat until 6-8 sts remain. Cut yarn, leaving an ~8 in end.
With crochet hook or tapestry needle, pull yarn through each st and drop off needle. Pull together snugly. Take all ends to inside.
Finishing:
Work all ends in snugly. Try on and dance around!
