Description:  This hat is done in single crochet.  Except for the first two rounds, you work the stitches in the back loop only, producing a handsome, woven/herringbone look.  It is worked from the top down; the last two inches are worked with a smaller hook to keep the edge firm and prevent it from flairing.  This project is suitable for an advanced beginner to experienced crocheter.

Level:  Easy (single crochet, working in the rnd, basic increases)

Size:  Adult Medium (Adult Large)

Materials: 

• 1 (2) ball(s) of Crystal Palace Danube Aran (shown in 607 "Sherwood Forest")
• Crochet hook in US sizes H an G, or size needed for gauge (Crystal Palace Bamboo recommended)
• Yarn sewing needle

Gauge:  4 sc = 1 inch on larger hook

Abbreviations:  beg- beginning; ch- chain; rep- repeat; rnd- round; sc- single crochet; sl st- slip stitch
