Description: This hat combines two different colors of Danube with its longer color repeat. One set of colors dances through the foreground while the second set morphs in the background.
Level: Easy/Intermediate
Size: Adult Woman (To make a smaller hat, reduce the needle size.)
Materials:
- 1 ball Crystal Palace Danube DK (40% nylon -30% rayon - 30% wool 163 yds/50 gr.), #321 Garden (Color A)
- 1 ball Crystal Palace Danube DK (40% nylon -30% rayon - 30% wool 163 yds/50 gr), #326 Salsa (Color B)
- Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles: 9" Single Points and 8" Double Points in US size 6
- Yarn needle
Gauge: 24 stitches= 4 inches. 38 rows = 4 inches. Your hat will be a different sized if your gauge is different from this.
INSTRUCTIONS
Cast on 106 sts with Color A. Knit 12 rows. Join Color B, and work in Two-Color Pattern until piece measures 7-1/2” from cast on edge. End with Row 8 or 16.
Two-Color Pattern:
Color B
Row 1 & 15: Knit across.
Row 2 & 16: Knit 2, Purl across to last 2 stitches, Knit 2.
Color A
Row 3 & 5: Knit 4, *Slip 2 with yarn in back, Knit 4*, across.
Row 4 & 6: Knit 4, *Slip 2 with yarn in front, Knit 4*, across.
Color B
Row 7 & 9: Knit across.
Row 8 & 10: Knit 2, Purl across to last 2 stitches, Knit 2.
Color A
Row 11 & 13: Knit 1, *Slip 2 with yarn in back, Knit 4*, across, ending Knit 1.
Row 12 & 14: Knit 1, *Slip 2 with yarn in front, Knit 4*, across, ending Knit 1.
Cut Color B.
*Knit 4, Yarn Over, Knit 2 together* across row. Work 7 rows stockinette stitch and bind off.
Gently steam the hat to set the pattern, but DO NOT PRESS the garter ridges flat. Stitch two short edges together for center back seam. Weave in all yarn ends.
Make 20” long 4-stitch I-cord with double point needles. Thread through Yarn Over holes and tie.
