Crystal Palace Yarns - FREE PATTERN - Knit
Description: This pattern is worked from the toe-up on two circular needles. It features short, staggered 4-st cables on the leg, with a comfy, garter-stitch heel.
Level: Intermediate (knowledge of sock construction, cables)
Size: Woman's M
Materials:
Gauge: 8 sts & 12 rows = 1"
Special Stitches:
C4F- Cable 4 Front (Slip next 2 sts to a cable needle or toothpick and hold in front of the work, knit the next 2 sts, then knit the sts from the cable needle.)
MM1- Modified Make 1 (With LEFT needle tip, pick up sts between last st on rt needle and 1st st on left needle. Do not transfer this st to the right needle – it will be knit together with the next st)
Twist Pattern:
Rnds 1 & 2: Knit
Rnd 3: *K4, C4F, rep from * around
Rnds 4-6: Knit
Rnd 7: *C4F, K4, rep from * around
Rnd 8: Knit
INSTRUCTIONS
Using figure-8 method and 2 circs held close together, cast on 32 sts (16
on each needle). (Note: If you are not familiar with this cast-on method,
just search the internet. There are several sites with great pictures
demonstrating this method).
Rnd 1: Knit
Rnd 2: K1, m1, k to last st on needle, m1, k1; rep on 2nd needle
Rep these 2 rounds until there are 72 sts (36 on each needle)
Foot: Continue knitting in the round until foot measures approximately 2” (5 cm) less than desired length.
Garter Heel: (Work sts on N1 only)
Row 1: Sl 1, K34, turn
Row 2: Sl 1, k33, turn
Row 3: Sl 1, k32, turn
Row 4: Sl 1, k31, turn
Row 5: Sl 1, k30, turn
Row 6: Sl 1, k29, turn
Row 7: Sl 1, k28, turn
Row 8: Sl 1, k27, turn
Continue working 1 st less each row for 16 more rows
Row 25: Sl 1, k11, MM1, K2tog, turn
Row 26: Sl 1, k12, MM1, K2tog, turn
Row 27: Sl 1, k13, MM1, K2tog, turn
Row 28: Sl 1, k14, MM1, K2tog, turn
Row 29: Sl 1, k15, MM1, K2tog, turn
Row 30: Sl 1, k16, MM1, K2tog, turn
Continue until all 36 sts are active again.
Sl 1, work across heel sts and continue knitting sts on Needle 2 to complete round.
Leg: Work Twist Pattern for approximately 5” (13 cm)
Cuff: Work K2, P2 ribbing for approximately 1½” (4 cm)
Bind off loosely (I prefer to bind off with a needle at least one size
larger).
Finish off. Weave in ends.
