Eyelet Vines Cowl

Description:  This cowl pattern was adapted from the Silken Ease Scarf, originally knitted in Panda Silk.  A soft, lacy wide cowl that works up quickly in an easy lace pattern, with a border of sturdy basketweave. This cowl is worked like a scarf and then sewed together at the ends to form the cowl. 

Level:  Intermediate

Size:  9½" x 20" (can be made longer for a wider cowl)

Materials: 

  • 2 balls Crystal Palace Panda Cotton (shown in 509 "Foliage")
  • Crystal Palace Bamboo 9" single-pointed needles in US size Size 5, or size needed for gauge
  • 2 Stitch Markers

Gauge:  5 sts=1" over eyelet patt

Abbreviations:  k- knit; k2tog- knit 2 together; p- purl; p3tog- purl 3 stitches together; rep- repeat; RS- right side (outsidde of project); sl- slip; ssk- slip, slip, knit; St(s)- Stitch(es); St st- stockinette stitch (k the right side rnds and p the wrong side Rnds); yo- yarn over

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Border:

Cast on 51 sts.

Row 1 (RS): K

Row 2: K4, p3, *K5, P3; rep from * to last 4 sts K4

Row 3: P4, k3, *p5, k3; rep from * to last 4 sts, P4

Row 4: K4, p3, *K5, P3; rep from * to last 4 sts K4

Row 5: K

Row 6: P3, *K5, P3; rep from * to end

Row 7: K3, *P5, K3, rep from * to end

Row 8: P3, *K5, P3; rep from * to end

 

Body:

Row 1: K9, place marker, work row 1 of chart three times, place marker, K9.

Row 2: K4, P4, K1, P to last marker, K1, P4, K4

Row 3: P4, K5, work row 3 of chart three times, K5, P4

Row 4: K4, P4, K1, P to last marker, K1, P4, K4

Row 5: K9, work row 5 of chart three times, K9

Row 6: P4, k5, P to last marker, K5, P4

Row 7: K4, P4, k1, work row 7 of chart three times, K1, P4, K4

Row 8: P4, k5, P to last marker, K5, P4

Repeat these 8 rows for approximately 60" (152 cm) or desired length, ending with Row 8.

 

Ending border:

Row 1: K

Row 2: K4, p3, *K5, P3; rep from * to last 4 sts K4

Row 3: P4, k3, *p5, k3; rep from * to last 4 sts, P4

Row 4: K4, p3, *K5, P3; rep from * to last 4 sts K4

Row 5: K

Row 6: P3, *K5, P3; rep from * to end

Row 7: K3, *P5, K3, rep from * to end

Row 8: P3, *K5, P3; rep from * to end

Row 9: K

Bind off.
