Leaf Shawl

Description:  This two-skein shawl features garter stitch and simple lace edging and accents.  Shawl is worked from bottom up.

Level: Intermediate

Size:  54" wide x 12" high

Materials: 

  • 2 skeins of Crystal Palace Panda Pearl (shown in 3032 "Byzantium")
  • Crystal Palace Bamboo 35 " circular in US sizes 7 and 8* (or size needed for gauge)
  • Stitch marker
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:  15 sts = 4" on smaller needles after blocking

Abbreviations: 

SK2P -  Slip one, k 2 tog, PSSO

RS – Right Side

WS – Wrong Side

 

* Larger size needle is for cast on and bind off only.  It can be omitted if knitter casts on and binds off loosely.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Pattern is worked on a multiple of 14 + 3 sts

 

Using larger needle, cast on 255 sts.  Knit 1 row.

 

Change to smaller needle and follow chart for leaf border. End by working a WS row.

Knit 3 rows, ending by working a RS row.

 

Next row:   K2, *yo, K2 tog* across row, ending yo, K1.

 

Knit 2 rows.  

 

Begin Short Rows:

Short Row 1:  K131, turn.

Short Row 2:  K6, turn.

Short Row 3:  K to 1 st before gap created by turn of previous row, K2 tog, K3, turn.

 

Repeat Short Row 3 until all sts have been used.  Knit 2 rows even, ending by working a WS row.

 

I-Cord Bind Off: 

Cast on 3 sts using cable cast on method.  Do not turn.

Row 1:  K2, K2 tog.  Do not turn.  Sl sts back onto left needle.

 

Repeat this row until 3 sts remain.  K3tog and fasten off.
