"Silk is Busting Out All Over" Quilt

made for NoTrad exhibit
 by Susan C. Druding

This quilt is 100% silk: all fabric, thread, batting and the embellishment is silk cocoons which I embroidered with silk threads and yarns. The top row is very traditional square in a square, the 2nd row shows bulges (actually silk cocoons buried under the surface between the quilt layers). The 3rd row of blocks shows the cocoons starting to emerge through the silk fabrics - and more color and texture is coming into the blocks. The 4th row shows total exposure of the cocoons dripping down the bottom edge of the quilt.   Some fun on the idea that silk makes itself known in all uses!

You can just see the bulge from the silk cocoon under the surface.
