"Silk Lattice III" Quilt

 by Susan C. Druding

The top of this quilt is 100% silk: duppioni style silk, the batting is a bottom layer of cotton with a top layer of silk cap fibers to give the quilt a light, lofty surface. Approximately 35 colors of silk fabric were used in the piecing. The quilt is machine pieced and quilted. The quilting is done in cotton, rayon and silk thread in 25-30 colors.

Silk Lattice III was awarded a Judge's Choice award and an Honorable Mention in Houston 2000. It was completed in summer 2000.

Detail of Silk Lattice showing diagonal quilting. The diagonal bars are pieced silks also. Since much of the silk fabric used has a different color warp and weft some appears to be two colors where it's quilted.
