What's New at STRAW.COM
& Crystal Palace Yarns This page is What's New for All of 2005 For earlier What's New pages back to 1995 Click here. This started as a "scratch pad" for me to keep track of what I was working on, but I realized that return visitors to STRAW.COM would find a list of changes and additions helpful in finding what was new. The earliest entry in 'What's New?' is from Dec. 1995 when this web site first opened. This web site is maintained by Susan Druding. November 25, 2005 - I recently got a Nikon D50 SLR digital and am having a fine time taking photos. (You'll see that we keep a big inventory of yarns to keep our shops supplied.) November 23, 2005 - A bias knit long, long scarf - knit this 8 feet of long scarf combining Popcorn and Party Ribbon.
November 14, 2005 - the new Popcorn yarn is SO much fun! Here's a very simple scarf knit with Popcorn combined with Deco-Ribbon for a great textured look. Just one ball of each yarn (approx. retail cost $13) will make this long scarf. Click the photo at the right to see more detailed photos and the easy-to-knit pattern.

November 10, 2005 - Everyone is talking about making "scribble lace" thanks to Debbie New's Unexpected Knitting book. I had to give it a try and chose to use size 15 needles for a little finer lace look than the size 17s used in the book. The result is this fun scribble lace scarf using Kid Merino and Deco-Stardust. Six feet of fun and with one ball of each yarn you have enough to make TWO scarves - get together with a friend and 2 different color ideas and you can each make one - you'll be able to make 2 scarves for under $20! I'm working on another one now with Kid Merino and Labrador, I'll get it posted soon.
November 10, 2005 - A wonderful combination of yarns makes a great looking jacket! Iceland and Party combine to bring out the best in both yarns in this Iceland + Party Ruana Jacket - knit in one piece and styled to fit all sizes of women. With the wide range of colors of Iceland and Party Ribbon you will be able to make a color scheme to please any palette choice.

two different felted bags using Musique: July 25, 2005 - We just received our shipment of DAISY Double Point needles, including size 35! I've never knit with DP 35s, so I had to experiment. I decided to knit a hat to felt. I knit with 2 ends of Labrador and 1 end of Fizz and cast on only 30 sts. It made a very loosely knit hat. I felted it for 5 minute cycle in my Maytag. The resulting hat is a fun one - see the photos and pattern for the hat HERE. So, I put it on a mannekin and draped it in different ways - you can see more experiments HERE and the Pattern is also here. I'm calling it a "What's It?"
